The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was found guilty of plotting a government overthrow in the ninth month and handed more than over two decades in jail, but he remained under home detention pending appeals.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after fresh information emerged.

This included attempting to break his tracking device and a invitation to a supporters' gathering that could "allow for a possible escape.

Judicial Records Show Escape Risks

In a filing authorising the custody, the judge said information from the unit overseeing the former president's confinement suggested the former leader's "intention to break the surveillance device to guarantee victory in his getaway".

This, it said, would be assisted by the disorder caused by the gathering called by his offspring.

His son, Flávio, who works as a legislator, called for a meeting of his backers near his father's house to take place on the weekend.

The senator wrote on online platforms on last Friday: "Are you going to fight for your country, or observe everything from your smartphone there on your settee? I invite you to struggle with us."

He said the demonstration would be so backers could seek divine intervention for his well-being and for the return of democracy in our land."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of Justice Moraes's decision was the potential of the former president's "relocation to embassies near the residence, considering that the investigations revealed a record of planning to ask for protection through a consular facility", a declaration said.

The judicial paperwork emphasizes that the US embassy in the national capital, Brasilia, is situated around 8 miles from his dwelling.

Worldwide Consequences

His judicial problems have drawn the ire of fellow conservative nationalist US President Donald Trump, leading him to implement a fifty percent tax on goods coming from Brazil.

Bolsonaro is being held in a federal law enforcement building in the capital and will experience a custody hearing on the following day.

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on the previous day that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the High Court to permit him to fulfill his full incarceration period under domestic detention, with digital surveillance.

They also asked that the former president be allowed to exit his dwelling for healthcare, saying he required ongoing care for lung conditions and other health problems.

Details of Guilty Verdict

He was found guilty of orchestrating a conspiracy aimed at retaining his authority after he was defeated in the 2022 election to his ideological adversary, President Lula.

High Court judges said that he knew of a plan which involved plans to assassinate the current president and his vice-presidential running mate, Alckmin, and to arrest and execute Alexandre de Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been overseeing the former president's case.

The conspiracy was stopped because it failed to get the endorsement of the military leaders. His successor was sworn in without problem on 1 January 2023.

But a seven days after, on 8 January, thousands of his followers invaded and destroyed public facilities in the capital, Brasília.

The law enforcement stepped in and around 1,500 people were arrested.

The justices found that the demonstrators had been encouraged by him whose plan, they said, was for the Brazilian military to take action, restore order and bring him back to power.

At the time, his attorneys called the over 27-year sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also prohibited from running for public office until twenty-sixty - eight years after the end of his sentence.

The one-time head of state called the legal proceedings a political persecution and said it was intended to stop him running in the 2026 national vote.
